Different Block types available for desktop devices (Window, Apple, Linux)

There are 3 different ways that we can enforce your block when you are using a ‘desktop’ version of BetBlocker. There are pros and cons to each which we will detail below to help you choose the best blocking method for you:

Local Block

This is the least intrusive type of block we can offer. It enforced the block inside your machine. For a new machine this is the fastest type of restriction. If your machine is older, because our restricted list is very long, it can substantially slow your machine down especially after a restart or update, while the restricted list loads.

This type of block can be easier to bypass if you are tech savvy.

VPN Server Block

This block is enforced externally to your machine, via our VPN. The advantages of this is that for older machines this will not slow your machine down like the Local Block and it is harder to get round this restriction. The disadvantages to the VPN Block are that some wifi networks will not be able to use this restriction (it will prevent your internet connect from functioning) and it will cause all computers to run slightly slower.

Local Block + VPN Server Block

This block is the best of both worlds and is ideally what we would recommend users select. It uses both types of protection and is far more challenging to get round.

However, it is also the most likely to have other problems:

- Older machines may be significantly slowed down especially after restart or updates while our restricted list is loaded.

- Some wifi networks will not work with this block.

- All computers will be slightly slowed down in their browsing speeds (~2-3%).

Whichever block you select, if you are experiencing technical issues contact user support at admin@betblocker.org and we should be able to help or even switch your restriction to a different restriction type.
